Winter Storm

News Date:
January 6, 2017

The current storms passing over us, while quite blustery, are not yielding much rain. We do expect the rains accompanying the storms that will arrive for this coming weekend to bring us a significant amount of rainfall, maybe over an inch of rain each day.  Public Works Maintenance Services has created a resource for residents who want to take precautionary measures to protect their property. Sand and sandbags are available for the residents of the City of Salinas. The Maintenance Services Division is located at 426 Work St. Salinas, CA 93901. Each household or business in the City of Salinas is allotted 10 bags. The sand and sandbags are in the parking lot area of the Maintenance Services Division.

During the storms and flooding the City experienced in 1996-97, over ten thousand bags of sand were distributed.  We do not expect these currently forecasted storms to be anywhere near the intensity that was experienced twenty years ago, but Maintenance Services is prepared for such an event and has on hand over three times as many bags. We have sufficient supplies to weather any rain event.
