The Main Street Master Plan is part of one of the first steps in implementing the Downtown Vibrancy Plan.  The Downtown Vibrancy Plan provides the foundation for improving circulation, safety, and aesthetics in the downtown area.  The Main Street Master Plan has been developed to further refine the framework and guidance specific to Main Street.  Any recommendations made in the Master Plan will be further advanced during the final design and construction phases.

Project Location:

Main Street between Central Avenue and E San Luis Street.

Project Background:

The Vibrancy Plan included a vision and goals to improve the Main Street corridor within the downtown area to make circulation improvements that support the vibrancy plan goals.

Among suggested improvements are converting Main Street from a one-way street to two-way and enhancing the pedestrian environment to include amenities such as lighting, security, outdoor seating opportunities, and place making.  A master plan was developed for the Main Street project to serve as the framework of the project design. Input received from over thirty meetings conducted by the City provided guidance for the design of the project.

Project Update:

The Downtown Vibrancy Main Street Master Plan was approved by City Council on October 24th, 2017.  The approved Master Plan is now transitioning into construction documents, plans, specifications and estimates  (PS&E) ready to go bid.  Three community meetings were planned as part of this phase of the project, one occurred on April 4th, 2018 and the next meeting is anticipated to occur in the Summer of 2018.
