On October 22, 2019, the Salinas City Council will consider the approval of plans and specifications for the Main Street Streetscape Project and authorize the issuance of the Invitation to Bidders.

The Main Street Streetscape Project, one of the first steps in implementing the Downtown Vibrancy Plan, is getting ready for construction!  Final construction documents are now complete and ready for final approval.

The Downtown Vibrancy Plan was developed to restore activity, commerce and vitality to downtown Salinas.  The plan relied heavily on the input from those will benefit from a vibrant downtown and an improved Main Street corridor.  The Downtown Vibrancy Plan has four major themes: Creating a Destination Downtown, Managing Parking Resources, Building the Heart of Salinas and Stimulating Development Activity.

Among the improvements included in the project are converting Main Street from a one-way street to two-way and enhancing the pedestrian environment to include amenities such as lighting, security, outdoor seating, enhanced landscaping, and place making.
