What is the U.S. Census?

The U.S. Census counts every resident in the United States. It is mandated by Article I, Section 2 of the Constitution and takes place every 10 years. The data collected by the decennial census determines the number of seats each state has in the U.S. House of Representatives and is also used to distribute billions in federal funds to local communities. The 2010 United States Census is the twenty-third and currently most recent United States national census. National Census Day, the reference day used for the census, was April 1, 2010.  For more information, please visit the 2010 Census website(link is external)
