What is a Survey Marker?
Survey markers, also called survey marks, survey monuments, or geodetic marks, are objects placed to mark key survey points on the Earth's surface. They are used in land surveying. Informally, such marks are referred to as benchmarks although strictly speaking the term "benchmark" is reserved for marks that indicate elevation. NOAA’s National Geodetic Survey (NGS) provides the framework for all positioning activities in the Nation. NGS provides Information about survey marks (including bench marks) in text datasheets or in GIS shapefiles. Note some survey markers installed by other organizations may not be available through NGS. To learn more about survey markers and how you can help land surveyors please visit the National Geodetic Survey website. Please Note: This is not a comprehensive dataset for all survey markers within the city, additional markers may be present and some may be missing within the city.
