On March 5, 2018, 30 students preparing for trips to Washington, D.C. and Sacramento had an opportunity to learn about the City of Salinas and how their local government works. Mayor Gunter covered several functions of local government from hierarchy, major projects and infrastructure, funding sources and budget, as well as the important role that AgTech plays in Salinas’ economic development. The students also learned about the important part our residents play by being the eyes, ears, and voice of the community, attending Council, Commission, and community meetings, and reporting service request issues to the City. The students also met with other Federal, State, and Local Officials in the days following.
