The Notice of Preparation for the Central Area Specific Plan Environmental Impact Report went out for thirty day public review on September 8th.  This is an important procedural step in formally launching the CEQA review for the project and a step towards adding critically needed housing for Salinas and the region. Once completed, the project is expected to provide approximately 3,710 dwelling units of various types and densities and 205,000 square feet of commercial space. The Central Area Specific Plan is a portion of the North of Boronda Future Growth Area which is comprised of just under 2,500 acres divided into three distinct areas: The West Area, Central Area and East Area. The project areas are anticipated to achieve entitlement sequentially from West to East and overall would result in approximately 11,000-12,000 new dwelling units, numerous parks and mixed use commercial space.
