Inside the new Food Bank of Monterey County

On Tuesday, December 4, 2018. The Food Bank of Monterey County held an open house to celebrate the opening of their new facility at 353 West Rossi Street. The new facility has a 20,000 square foot chilling room  a large freezer and warehouse space. There is an area that allows for a grocery market-like experience with shelves of food and behind that area is the main storage facility. The spacious building has sleek new office spaces and a conference room. In addition there is a large kitchen that will host future classes for people interested in cooking. The Food Bank's Executive Director, Melissa Kendrick wanted the space to feel like a normal kitchen than a commercial kitchen to encourage people to cook at home. There is also a small nursery and other community spaces, such as playrooms for children, that make it inviting for whole families. The will serve this community in more ways than the prior facility allowed for due to space constraints. The Food Bank built this facility with vision to hold as much fresh produce and quality food as possible, but also to provide opportunities to learn about fresh foods and cook with them. It is not just a Food Bank, but a community learning center. Congratulations to the Food Bank of Monterey County, Melissa Kendrick, and the staff who put so much effort into developing this amazing new resource for Salinas.
