The Buddhist Temple held the Annual Salinas Obon Festival on Sunday July 29, 2018. This festival featured Ikebana Floral Displays and Bonsai Exhibits. Other features included Japanese food, demonstrations of Kendo and other martial arts, flower arrangements,  a tea ceremony, amazing taiko drumming, classical Obon Odori dancing, and an Obon service. Approximately 2,000 people attended this great event as well as Community Development staff, who supported pop-up activities for the Chinatown Revitalization Plan and the development of Guiding Principles for Vision Salinas. District 4 Councilmember, Gloria de la Rosa, also volunteered at the event to sell boxed lunches as a fundraiser for the festival.
