On January 24th the City of Salinas, Alisal Vibrancy Plan (AVP) steering committee, and Building Healthy Communities will be hosting a design workshop to get community input on improving Alisal Street and other major corridors in East Salinas.

Previous engagement AVP workshops have succeeded in getting input from hundreds of residents on what they want to see in the Alisal area. The upcoming workshop will explore how to make East Salinas streets safer, more attractive, and more active for pedestrians, cyclists, transit riders, and all users.

The event will focus on East Alisal Street, E Market Street, and Sanborn Road. Feedback from the workshop will shape future transportation projects proposed in the Alisal Vibrancy Plan and Alisal Corridor Complete Streets Plan, so it is critical to hear the community’s ideas and priorities!

The workshop is open to all residents and will be hosted at Sherwood Elementary School. The January 24th “Alisal Community Design Workshop” is from 5:30 – 8:00 pm. The workshop will kickoff with dinner and entertainment. Childcare and interpretation services are also provided. The event will be conducted in Spanish and English.

City staff and project partners will immediately begin working on turning input into design concepts. The community is also invited to see this process in action at an open house the next day, Thursday, January 25th, at the Firehouse Recreation Center, 1330 E Alisal Street. Residents are welcome to drop-in anytime between 5:00 – 7:30 PM to view early concept drafts, provide more suggestions, or to ask any questions about the plans!
