The close out of a busy 2018 brought out some strong numbers for activity within Salinas.  The overall permit numbers are down from last year, but as noted in the chart below, this was due to a decrease in reroof permits.  Both commercial and residential building permit numbers are up.  The total valuations for submitted permits was also much higher than 2017.  The increase in permits provided an additional $12 million dollars on commercial remodels and $16 million on the residential permits for a total value of all work within the city at just under $82 million dollars.  As the permit center is now an enterprise fund, the additional permits allowed us to reach our targeted budget as adopted.  As expected, staff conducted more inspections than last year  – and while lower than last year, staff was able to review, approve and issue 514 over the counter permits.
