VISTA Members improve neighborhoods, earn valuable work experience, and give back to the community!
In 2017, the City was awarded five yearly AmeriCorps VISTA (Volunteers In Service to America) positions to support community-driven projects in the Alisal neighborhood and the development of the Alisal Vibrancy Plan. The Salinas VISTA team serves on the Alisal Support Team and work together on multifaceted strategies to alleviate poverty in the Alisal neighborhood by focusing on Economic Opportunity, Education, and Healthy Futures.
Thousands of individuals serve as VISTA Members across the U.S., increasing capacity of organizations around anti-poverty projects through the program. VISTAs are full-time service members through the Federal Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS), not City employees.
