The City of Salinas AmeriCorps VISTA Team, in partnership with the Salinas City Elementary School District and Blue Zones Project Monterey County, held a Healthy Kids Back-2-School event at Sherwood Elementary School on S. Wood Street in the Alisal. About 300 children participated in crafts and activities centered around health and safety. Activities included decorating their own reusable face coverings, answering questions on healthy living to win prizes, and creating Thank You cards for our first responders. Over 200 children received a backpack with school supplies or a pencil box with supplies.

The event was coordinated with their weekly Food Bank of Monterey County distribution at Sherwood Elementary and was well attended, with many families waiting in line to join the activities.
