On August 31, over 100 members of the Alisal community attended an Open House at Martin Luther King Jr. Academy to learn how they can participate in the Alisal Vibrancy Plan (AVP). The City of Salinas and the resident-led AVP Steering Committee hosted the event to formally kick-off plan engagement, share some of the history of this effort, and recruit people to join Working Groups on five themes of the plan: Quality of Life, Community Health, Economic Development, Transportation and Mobility, and Housing. These Working Groups will address many topics related to their themes, such safety in Community Health, or parks and open space in Quality of Life. The purpose of these Working Groups is for residents and stakeholders to collaborate with technical advisors to develop community-driven solutions that will enhance life in the Alisal/East Salinas neighborhoods. If people do not have the time or desire to join a Working Group, there will still be many opportunities and means of sharing their voice and ideas in the plan, such as large community meetings, pop-up events, surveys, and small-group or individual meetings. To learn more about the Working Groups or other areas of the plan, visit alisalplan.org, or contact Senior Planner Lisa Brinton at 831-775-4239, or lisab [at] ci.salinas.ca.us.
