American Planning Association CA Conference 2019 logo

In September, six staff members from the City’s Community Development Department attended the three-day American Planning Association California Chapter Conference in Santa Barbara. This year’s conference theme was “A Resilient Future,” with panels and discussions focused on how to affect lasting change as stewards in the planning profession. Emphasis was placed on planning with diversity, inclusivity, and adaptability in mind for our dynamic and growing community. In addition to networking and engaging with colleagues from across the state, the conference offered tools and best practice examples for addressing issues surrounding affordable housing, climate change, health and safety, and more. Staff for the City of Salinas look forward to this annual conference to bring home current, innovative ideas to incorporate into our planning efforts and initiatives.
