Tynan Village will soon be home to a new bakery/deli.  Jose Chavez and his family look forward to launching another bakery and deli in the heart of Salinas at the Tynan Village Complex.

The Chavez family have been successful small business entrepreneurs for over 23 years.  Jose immigrated from Guanajuato, Mexico with his parents and 10 siblings during the Bracero program.  He worked for several years in various agricultural businesses before becoming a business owner.  His hard work and success would not be possible without the support of his wife, Guadalupe and two daughters who will also help work and manage the new bakery.

In 1995, Jose Chavez along with his brother opened a bakery in Soledad after working in agriculture for over 27 years.  In 2003, Jose and his wife opened a second business in East Salinas (Sanborn Plaza Market).  The market offered an expanded line of Mexican pastries and traditional foods in their deli section along with fresh produce and groceries.  In 2015, Jose helped his wife and daughter open up their own bakery and deli, La Mariposa Bakery, located across from Denny's in the north end of Salinas.

In June of 2016, the City contracted the services of El Pájaro Community Development Corporation (ELPCDC) to provide business development services to Salinas entrepreneurs and small business, which included identifying potential tenants for the vacant commercial space at Tynan Village Apartments.  It was through these efforts and partnership, ELPCDC was successful in assisting the Chavez family with tenant negotiations and identifying funding sources for the project.   Construction plans will be submitted to the City in January 2018, and construction is scheduled to begin in March 2018 with an approximate completion date late spring.
