An attic fire during midday in South Salinas illustrates the inherent dangers firefighters face while suppressing building fires. The photo show active fire through the roof and heavy fire conditions once a ventilation hole has been placed. A firefighter over the top of a fire is one of the most dangerous aspects of the job reports Chief Rodriguez. "Unfortunately to remove the built up heat and smoke it is necessary to make it safe for firefighters inside and to create tenable conditions for any victims," states the Chief. The pictures shows the hard work that our Salinas Firefighters perform almost daily throughout our community. Last year, the SFD responded to over 13,800 emergency incidents citywide; a new record.
