On August 7, 2018, neighborhoods across the city of Salinas celebrated the 35th anniversary of National Night Out. This great event was celebrated with fourteen different neighborhoods participating by hosting a variety of events ranging from small potlucks and BBQ’s to large block parties. Activities such as games, contests, arts and crafts, music and dancing were also included.

Neighborhood camaraderie and police-community interaction was quite evident in every neighborhood with participants of all ages in a family friendly atmosphere with plenty of fun, laughter and dancing.

This year the National Night Out was celebrated throughout the city unlike the past years were the event was held at a central location. The change in format was made to facilitate interaction and participation by the community with their own neighbors and to foster sharing of ideas in order to create better and safer neighborhoods.

Several of the participating groups discussed forming Neighborhood Watch Groups and neighborhood goals. Kudos are in order for all who participated in this year’s National Night Out celebration to make this annual event a great success!
