On Wednesday, October 11, the Police Department introduced the two new school resource officers for the Santa Rita Union School District.  This followed the City Council vote to approve the agreement with the district the previous day.  Officers Rich Lopez and Lino Sanchez were selected from a large group of very qualified candidates.  They are both bilingual and have a history of volunteering in the community.  Rich and Lino will begin their new assignments soon.

Rich was hired by the police department in 2003 and has worked in several community-based assignments.  He has worked as the Executive Director of PAL, SUBA officer, and a community officer assigned to the Hebbron Heights area.  He volunteers for the parent project as a facilitator.

Lino was hired by the police department in 2012 after working for the Greenfield Police Department for two years.  He is a Salinas native and attended local schools growing up.  He volunteers as a coach for youth soccer and enjoys working with kids.

Both Rich and Lino are looking forward to their new assignments.  They will work closely with the schools to provide a safe learning environment, be positive role models, and mentor the students.
