On Monday, September 11th, 2017, the Salinas Police Department and Fire Department held their first joint 9/11 commemoration ceremony with the Salinas community. The ceremony honored the memory of those who sacrificed their lives on September 11th, 2001, and those who responded to the events of that fateful day.

The commemoration was a true collaborative effort among City departments calling together sworn and civilian team members from Police, Fire, Public Works, and perhaps most importantly, from our community. A great deal of coordination, logistics, and creativity went into the planning and preparation for the event. All of which culminated in a reverential presentation honoring the sacrifices of September 11th, and demonstrating our commitment to the community.

In addition to positive local media coverage, a production crew was on hand filming for the “Cops” television series. The crew made sure to get film of police, fire, and community members standing under a large banner reading, “We Are Salinas – United We Stand.” The footage filmed at the ceremony will likely be presented in an upcoming episode featuring the Salinas Police Department.

All in all the ceremony was a great public event and reflective of the highest standards of the City of Salinas and our community.
