Community Academy Graduates standing with Police Chief

The Salinas Police Department’s Fall Community Academy just graduated another round of enthusiastic community members. In this Academy, 27 local participants spent one night a week for 12 weeks learning about SPD and all that the department does.   Various classes incorporated student participation and gave each academy member a personal experience of what a Salinas Police Officer does in the performance of his/her duties as well as the other units that support the department.  Topics covered included but were not limited to: selection and training of police officers, K-9 demonstration, history and use of Tasers, patrol operations, crime scene investigation, search & seizure, gang intelligence, participation in scenarios of high risk traffic stops and officer safety.  The Community Academy began with the Salinas Police Department in the fall of 1996 and there are currently two sessions a year.  Congratulations to the graduates!
