The Downtown Complete Streets Project and the Main Street Streetscape Project both break ground.

On April 7, 2020, both the Downtown Complete Streets Project and the Main Street Streetscape Project began construction.  These two projects are important elements of the Downtown Vibrancy Plan, adopted by City Council as a strategic plan in 2015.  Now after a lengthy design and environmental process, these projects are becoming a reality.

M.P.E. and City Staff are working carefully during the State of Emergency. Based on the Monterey County Health Department's Order, these construction projects are exempt from the Shelter-in-Place. The projects will continue as planned, construction crews and city staff will all strive to implement the County Health Department's recommendation to help flatten the curve.

The City and Contractor are committed to completing this work quickly, efficiently and safely. While construction activity is in progress, there may be some delays.  Working hours will be between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.  Both projects are expected to be completed in early 2021.

Funding for these projects is provided by Measure X, a sales tax measure approved by Monterey County voters.
