City of Salinas East Laurel Drive and Constitution Boulevard Sidewalk and Natividad Trail Improvements Project

Background:

Members of the Community and Center for Community Advocacy (CCA) alerted the City of the need for pedestrian improvements on East Laurel Drive. There are currently no pedestrian facilities on East Laurel Drive and Constitution Boulevard connecting the residential neighborhood to the existing trails, soccer fields, Natividad Medical Center, ROP, County offices, Veterans' Memorial Park, Farmers Market, and nearby Creekbridge Shopping Center.

Project Description:

The East Laurel Drive and Constitution Boulevard Sidewalk and Natividad Trail Improvements Project will improve pedestrian, bicycle, vehicular, and trail facilities along East Laurel Drive and Constitution Boulevard by providing new sidewalk facilities, a trail system and boardwalk for pedestrians and bicyclists, trail lighting, bus shelters, crosswalk enhancements, and new street lighting on the roadway. These improvements provide safe bicycle and pedestrian routes and convenient connections for residents who want access to public facilities or want a place to enjoy a healthy walk. City will also be installing new sidewalk and ADA ramps on Constitution Boulevard in front of the soccer fields for a connection to Creekbridge.

Project Limits:

The project limits are East Laurel Drive from Constitution Boulevard to North Sanborn Road and Constitution Boulevard from East Laurel Drive to the Creekbridge Shopping Center. The street lighting for the roadway limits are East Laurel Drive from Natividad Road to North Sanborn Road.

Construction to begin in 2020.
