The City of Salinas has contracted with VSS International to for the Chip Seal Project at various locations throughout the City.   Work is scheduled to begin Monday, May 16, 2022 and last approximately 4 weeks.

Construction hours will be from 9:00AM to 4:00PM, Monday through Friday.  Although there are no anticipated road closures, traffic delays are likely.  Please allow additional travel time or use alternate routes where possible.  Roadway users, residents, and business are asked to please be mindful of all traffic control, “No Parking” signs, equipment, and construction personnel.

Chip Seals are low-cost, yet effective roadway surface treatments that consist of liquid asphalt emulsion applied to the existing surface, which is then covered with aggregate rock called “chip”.  Chip Seals take approximately 1 to 2 hours to cure.  The treated surfaces will receive a fog seal approximately 2-3 days following the Chip Seal Resurfacing. The fog seal requires approximately 3 to 4 hours to cure.
