PW Maintenance Services
The PW Maintenance Services Division maintains public infrastructure and coordinates environmental activities such as Salinas’ stormwater pollution prevention activities. Salinas’ Green Team activities are coordinated by this Division. The Division also plays a role in emergency response during storms and other local emergencies.

Facilities Maintenance
The Facilities Maintenance Division is responsible for the preventive and janitorial maintenance and minor repair of City-owned buildings and other facilities to ensure they are clean, safe, sanitary, and operational for the public. In addition to these tasks, the Facilities Maintenance Division is also responsible for graffiti abatement (the removal and/or painting over of graffiti) and parks construction/maintenance.
The tasks performed by the Facilities Maintenance Division are varied and challenging. The responsibilities include the periodic inspections and janitorial maintenance of public buildings such as libraries, recreation centers, fire stations, and the police department. The Facilities Maintenance Division performs building repairs such as roof repairs, plumbing repairs, electrical repairs, etc.
There is one group within the Division responsible for setup and preparation of events and meetings held at the Community Center. This group faces a special challenge as the users of the Community Center range from the Monterey County Symphony, to small groups of 10 holding a meeting. All of which have unique requirements.
The Facilities Division is responsible for construction/maintenance in City parks. These duties involve the design, installation, maintenance and repair of park irrigation systems, and the installation, inspection, repair, and removal of park playground equipment.
Fleet Maintenance
Fleet Maintenance is the internal service division responsible for the inspection, maintenance, and repair of the City’s Public Works fleet of over 600 vehicles and pieces of equipment. The mission of Fleet Maintenance is to provide safe, dependable and environmentally sound transportation, related support services, and tools for necessary City purposes. The Division’s primary responsibility is to conserve vehicle and equipment value through the inspection, periodic preventative maintenance, and repair of this asset. Included in this responsibility are the annual Smog Inspections, quarterly commercial vehicle safety and maintenance inspections required by the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), Biennial Inspections of Terminals (BIT) Program, and related record keeping and data management.
Graffiti Abatement
The purpose of the Graffiti Abatement Program is to work with concerned neighbors and business-owners to identify, report and remove graffiti from public spaces.
To report an incident of graffiti call and leave a message on the graffiti hotline at 831-758-7926. Graffiti eradication is performed on a daily basis, 7 days a week by the City’s Environmental and Maintenance Services Department.
Annually, approximately 500,000 square feet of graffiti from over 4,000 sites throughout the City is eradicated.

The City of Salinas is taking action to wipe out graffiti and clean up crime. The Code Enforcement, Environmental and Maintenance Services, and Police Departments are working together to manage a practical Graffiti Abatement Program in Salinas. The City is working to keep neighborhoods clean and attractive through various activities including abatement programs, educational outreach, community involvement and police enforcement.

Street Maintenance
It is the mission of the Street Maintenance Division to maintain Salinas’ transportation and pedestrian infrastructure. Maintenance activities address repairs to streets, sidewalks, traffic signs and signals and streetlights. To report damage to streetlights call (831) 758-7989. Waste Water Maintenance
The Wastewater Division of the Environmental and Maintenance Services Department is responsible to perform maintenance and repairs to the infrastructure necessary to safely convey industrial, stormwater and sanitary sewer waste. The Division is also responsible for water quality protection activities that include infrastructure maintenance, water quality monitoring, illicit discharge prevention and public education and outreach associated with Salinas’ National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System Permit. The Division is also responsible for coordination of the Green Team, an interdepartmental effort toward greater environmental sustainability in municipal activities.
Storm Drain Maintenance
This activity, part of the Clean Water Program, provides for storm drain and open channel maintenance prior to winter rains, removes pollutants from the waste stream prior to runoff to the environment through best management practices (BMP's), and ensures safety from local flooding.
Street Sweeping
Provides cleaning of City streets to maintain a clean environment for residents and to remove debris, trash, and pollutants before they enter the storm drains that lead to local waterways.
Sanitary Sewer Maintenance
Ensures the environment and public health are protected by maintaining the sewer system in a safe, reliable, and sanitary condition.
The Industrial Waste Facility
Provides an economical and environmentally acceptable means of water treatment and disposal of process water from local agricultural industries and others with process water requirements.
Urban Forestry
The Urban Forestry Division maintains all trees that are on the City’s right-of-way. The City of Salinas has over 33 thousand trees and over 200 distinct species of trees.
