On August 30, 2018, the City of Salinas and MST took a group of 19 seniors from the Firehouse Recreation Center to the Monterey County Fair.  The Firehouse Seniors started their day by visiting the "Senior Day Resource Fair" where they received many promotional items like bags, pens, magnets as well as valuable information.

This year, 10 seniors from the Firehouse Recreation Center entered the jewelry contest at the Monterey County Fair.  Carmen Gonzales, a first time participant, took 1st Place! It was Bette Gillis' second year entering jewelry in the fair. Last year she placed 3rd and this year she placed 2nd.  Maria Elena Perez, another first-time participant in the Monterey County Fair, took 3rd place.  Joan Romero, Aurora Contreras, Aurora Rodriguez, Mary Lara, Mary Garcia, Joaquina Cruz and Paula Sandoval received Honorable Mentions.  Elaine Benadom, Recreation Assistant, leads the jewelry class that meets the last Wednesday of every month from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
