Recreation Afterschool Programs
The City of Salinas Recreation-Park Division offers free afterschool programs for youth at several of its recreation facilities Monday - Friday. These programs offer a safe, fun and positive environment where youth can participate in a variety of enrichment activities in a recreational setting. Staff is available for homework assistance and computer access with wifi is available at some locations.

The Bread Box Recreation Center is a non-traditional recreation center with an emphasis on our community youth. The Bread Box provides professionally designed and supervised programs that benefit all ages - children, youth, and teens; our Programs promote personal growth and self-esteem and contribute to the quality of life enjoyed by all Salinas residents. In addition, the Bread Box offers a variety of drop-in recreational programs and services for youth with opportunities to participate in activities that foster friendships, and encourage a healthy lifestyle through the participation in positive recreational experiences.
Pick up Games
Do you enjoy playing Basketball, Volleyball, Dodge-ball, or Street soccer? Better yet, do you want an exciting recreational activity, a chance to learn new skills, the opportunity to meet new people, or simply to take a break from academics? Then this is for you!
All Athletic activities are co-ed and designed for all skill levels, ages 6 – 18. Pick-up games will vary throughout the day and according with the amount of participants present. A minimum of four players are needed to begin a game! Games will have a 30 minute time limit. So come on down to the Breadbox, alone or with friends and Pick-up a game!
Computer Lab, iPad Bar & Nintendo DS gaming
Are you looking to enhance your online skills or video gaming experience? Do you want to learn how to surf the web but catch yourself being technically challenged? If so, stop by our computer lab, iPad bar or Nintendo DS gaming center. Our staff can help you get a handle on social media’s latest trends and assist you with navigating through it all. So stop by the Breadbox and learn a bit of knowledge! Available for participants, ages 10 - 18.
Breadbox Teen Lounge
Our Teen Lounge offers a respite from the outside world! Bread Box Teen Lounge is both a relaxed and high-energy drop in lounge where young people between the ages of 11 and 18, are offered a variety of activities that include: Wi-Fi, sports, foosball, air hockey, table tennis, socialization, amplified music, field trips, computer/ iPad lab and video games. Or if you’re looking for relaxation, there’s also a Lounge area where you can experience Cable Tv. It also offers a great place for Health & Life Skills discussions, positive peer building and Character enhancing programs. Meals are also provided free of charge. Program runs every Saturday from 6pm – 10pm.

Food Bank Distribution Site
Through this program, the Food Bank distributes donated food and products along to Partner -Agency sites located throughout Salinas - Monterey County. The Emergency Food Assistance Program provides grocery bags of food to low-income families and individuals based on income guidelines defined by United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) commodities dept. This Neighborhood Program distributes food to hundreds of people two times a month at the Breadbox Recreation Center. Distributions take place in the parking lot for 1 full hour on each occasion. This program is open to everyone. No documentation or ID is required to receive food assistance.

Central Park is located on 8 acres of land that houses a recreation facility, grass area, BBQ pits, community garden, memorial rose garden, playground apparatus, basketball court, volleyball court, tennis courts, horse shoe pit, picnic tables, tree trail, game field, and exercise course.
The facility offers: Homework help, snacks, arts & crafts, sports equipment check out, pool table, board games, legos, PS4, local field trips and out of town excursions.

Firehouse is next to the Fairways Golf Course and Gene Robertson Baseball Field. It houses a recreation building, a courtyard with a gazebo and one picnic table, playground apparatus, basketball half court and ample parking. The types of programs offered are Homework help, drop-in program, Senior Nutrition, Senior Activities and a Teen Scene Program. Activities include basketball, tablets, computers, soccer, video gaming, pool table, board games and field trips.

Open to all teens ages 11 – 18 years.
Free food, snacks, activities, trips and raffles for prizes
Activities include: Basketball, Tablets, Computers, Soccer, Video Gaming (Xbox One, PS4) Field Trips, Art & Craft Activities, and Special Guest Presentations.

The Hebbron Family Center offers a safe, fun and positive environment where youth can participate in a variety of enrichment activities in a recreational setting. We offer a Youth Homework Center, Drop-in After School program, Summer Program, Girl Scout Troop 541, Karate Classes, Read Grow Play, Citizenship Classes, Food Bank and a variety of other recreation programs.
Laptops, tablets and printer are available for youth to do homework, projects, research and/or play educational games.

Teen Program

Teens can come and enjoy there own area with a pool table, couches, recliners, T.V. and projector for watching and playing video games. On Saturday night they will also enjoy dinner, events, raffles, trips and more.
