About the Public Arts Master Plan

Home to a young, diverse, and vibrant community, Salinas looks to its future as a colorful piece of art. In response to the community’s desire for public art and the expansion of opportunities for artists, City Council approved a Public Art Program ordinance in 2017 to establish and fund public art. The Public Arts Master Plan is a written strategic plan which supports local artists, artwork and secures the possibility of future public art throughout the next 10 years. Public Art Events Grant Request for Proposals

The Public Arts Commission unanimously approved the Annual Public Art Plan at its meeting on February 28, 2022 and recommended to the City Council that a sum not to exceed $6,000 be released from the Municipal Art Fund in FY 2023 to fund the activities mentioned in the introduction.  $5,000 would go to support new or existing public art events in Salinas by offering matching grants (in-kind match allowed) of up to $2,500. 

This Public Art Plan Grant is available year-round for the fiscal year of 2022-2023. There is no set deadline for this funding opportunity; however, the objective of this grant opportunity must be fulfilled within the 2022-2023 fiscal year and grant applications will only be accepted until May 31, 2023 one month ahead of the end of the fiscal year. Ideal submission date of application would be within the first six-month period of grant opportunity release.
