The Salinas City Council serves as the policy-making and legislative body of the City of Salinas. The mayor serves a two-year term and Council members serve four-year terms.
The City Council seeks guidance and input from Salinas' residents in order to carry out their duties. To fulfill that need, the City Council has formed a number of boards, commissions, and committees who study various issues and recommend appropriate direction to the City Council.
Meeting Schedule
The City Council holds regular public meetings on Tuesdays at 4:00 p.m. These meetings are open to the public. See the Calendar and the Agenda archive for more details.

Public Comments - Teleconference Meetings
In accordance with Executive Order N-29-20 and based on guidance from the California Department of Public Health, in order to minimize the spread of the COVID 19 virus, City meetings can only be observed live at https://salinas.legistar.com/Calendar.aspx , on The Salinas Channel on YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/user/thesalinaschannel
Advanced submittal of public comments via email are due by 2:00 P.M. on the day of the scheduled meeting to the City Clerk at [email protected] Comments are limited to 250 words or less and effort will be made to read your comment into the record, but some comments may not be read due to time limitations. The City Clerk will read email comments, provided that the reading shall not exceed two (2) minutes. The email comments submitted shall become part of the record.
