Adult Programs

The City of Salinas offers a variety of recreational classes for adults and seniors that provide an opportunity for continued learning and encourage a positive leisure lifestyle. 

Senior Program

Senior Program at the Firehouse Recreation Center

Get to know your neighbors and your community through our fun programs for seniors.  Meet a friend for a cup of coffee in the morning and stay for a nutritious meal. We have many fun programs to keep you engaged, from walking groups to jewelry making, bingo and field trips.  

Join us for special health clinics, resource fairs, community presentations, special events, and much more, designed for seniors.  Senior programming hours are from 8:00 am– 12:00 pm, Monday through Friday. *Times varies based on programs. 

Coffee & Social Time: We invite you to have complimentary coffee and pastries Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 12:00 pm. Join in and meet new friends, catch up with old friends and socialize us.

Nutritious Lunch - Optional
This program is co-sponsored by the City of Salinas and Meals on Wheels. A delicious hot meal is served every day for seniors 60 years and above for a suggested donation of $3, but everyone will receive a meal regardless of their ability to pay. Reservations are required every Wednesday for the following week.

Bingo
Senior Bingo is held on Mondays and Fridays from 12:15 pm to 2:30 pm
Bingo Cards are $0.50 each. Minimum card purchase is of $3.00 for 6 cards. You must be 18 years old to play.

Loteria 
Loteria is played daily from 9:30 am to 11:00 am.

Knitting & Crocheting
If you have always wanted to learn how to knit or crochet, join us every Wednesday morning from 9:00 am to 10:00 AM. Our awesome volunteer will walk you through the basics! Before you know it, you’ll be knitting a scarf or hat for yourself or to give as a gift. If you are already a pro, join us for a fun, relaxing time of knitting and sharing the morning with friends over coffee and pastries as you create something new.

Arts & Crafts
Looking for an inventive and enjoyable way to spend your free time? Check out our list of crafts for seniors. It encompasses a wide range of craft activities, from painting and knitting to jewelry making. Whatever your interests or skill level, there are dozens of ways to have fun while keeping your hands occupied and your creativity flourishing.

    1st, 2nd, and 3rd Wednesday of the month from 9:00 am to 10:00 am                              

“Out to Lunch Bunch”
Once a month on a Tuesday, the group goes to lunch at a restaurant that is within a short "road trip". Sometimes the destination is just a lunch date, but sometimes the destination includes experiencing interesting things in the area such as shopping, holiday decorations or historical sites.

Please call the Firehouse to inquire about the date, time, and location. Seniors pay for their meal. Rides will be provided to seniors who meet at the Firehouse.  

Senior Movie Day
Who doesn't love going to the movies? Once a month on a Wednesday, Seniors make a trip to Maya Cinema and enjoy each other's company, delicious popcorn and movie of course!
*Movie to be seen is selected one week prior to the trip. 

Food Bank

The City of Salinas Recreation-Park Division in partnership with the Food Bank of Monterey County provide emergency and supplemental food to the low and no-income residents of the Monterey County.

Bread Box Recreation Center

Firehouse Recreation Center

Only for those 50 years old and over.

Zumba Fitness

By mixing low-intensity and high-intensity moves, this calorie-burning dance class gives you a total workout. Cardio, muscle conditioning, balance and flexibility so that it's guaranteed to boost your energy.

Extreme Martial Arts

Want a fun and interactive way to get in shape? Our adult classes are designed to help you reach your goals whether it’s building confidence, self-defense skills, or simply getting in shape. Classes incorporating Martial Arts, Karate, Kenpo Jujitsu are a fun way to work toward your goals with friendly people in an environment you can get excited about!
