Curb Marking Application Process

Business and property owners can request curb markings by submitting a Special Curb Marking Application. All applications must be submitted to the Public Works Department located at 200 Lincoln Avenue, Salinas, CA.

All completed applications are subject to Staff's evaluation. Staff's recommendation is then reviewed by the Traffic and Transportation Commission. Finally, the City Council must approve the application by adopting a resolution.

Curb Marking Policies

RESIDENTIAL NO PARKING (RED) ZONE(S)

To be consistent with appropriate use of traffic control devices and in response to increasing red zone requests, the City has approved a red zone policy with criteria for when to install red zones. Specifically, the policy restricts the installation of red zones for parking control purposes on residential streets and provides guidance and uniform criteria to respond to a request for removing parking on residential streets.

DISABLED (BLUE) ZONE(S)

The Salinas Disabled (Blue) Parking Zones Policy on Residential Streets restricts the installation of Disabled (Blue) Zones to specific locations. The policy intends to ensure that disabled parking on residential streets are installed where they are most needed and that residents who are disabled to have safe and convenient access to their homes and their vehicles.

Description of Curb Marking Colors

GREEN indicates no standing or parking for longer than twenty minutes at any time between 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. of any day except Sundays and holidays. Zones shall be indicated by green paint lines, stenciled with white letters, "20-MINUTE PARKING ZONE," upon the top of all curbs within such zones.

YELLOW means no stopping, standing, or parking at any time between 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. of any day except Sundays and holidays for any purpose other than the loading or unloading of passengers or materials; provided, that the loading or unloading of passengers shall not consume more than five minutes nor the loading or unloading of materials more than twenty minutes.

WHITE indicates no stopping, standing, or parking for any purpose other than loading or unloading of passengers, which shall not exceed five minutes, and such restrictions shall apply between 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. of any day except Sundays and holidays and except as follows:

a. When such zone is in front of a hotel, the restrictions shall apply at all times;

b. When such zone is in front of a theater, the restrictions shall apply at all times except when such theater is closed.

BLUE means no stopping, standing or parking except for disabled persons as permitted by the California Vehicle Code.

RED means no stopping, standing, or parking at any time except as permitted by the Vehicle Code, and except that a bus may stop in a red zone marked or signed as a bus zone.
