Fire Station 1 Repairs & Temporary Relocation

Construction at FS1

Fire Station 1 is one of the busiest stations in Salinas responding to about 30% of all calls across the City last year. Station 1, located at 216 W. Alisal St., has been a critical asset to the community since 1982. It's the largest and the busiest in the City, handling the highest demand for services and requiring the most staffing and unit hours compared to other stations.

The Salinas Fire Department Master Plan, which was adopted by the City Council in 2023, identified Station 1 as being in poor condition, with deteriorating infrastructure and deferred maintenance issues that had accumulated since its construction. Renovating Fire Station No. 1 will enhance its operational capabilities and extend the useful life of the facility, enabling the Fire Department to continue delivering critical services to the City of Salinas.

Station 1 was temporarily relocated in the beginning of January to the Community Center facility next to Sherwood Hall where the Station 1 team will continue operations during construction. During the daytime Medic Engine 1 will be located at 106 Lincoln Avenue to maintain response times and meet the needs of the community.
