Elections & Voter Information

The City of Salinas is a Charter City with a Council-City Manager form of government. City voters elect six (6) council members by district and the Mayor at-large in November of even-numbered years. Three (3) council member seats are to be voted on every two (2) years. 

Council members serve a four (4) year term and the Mayor serves a two (2) year term.

Eligibility and Candidacy

District 1, 4, and 6 Council member seats and the Mayor seat are up for election on November 5th. No person shall be eligible to hold the office of Mayor or Council member unless on the date of the filing of nomination papers, the individual is a qualified elector of the City of Salinas, and, with respect to a Council member has been a resident of the district for which they are running, for at least twenty-eight (28) days preceding the opening date for the filing of nomination papers, or the appointment to fill a vacancy therein, and shall forfeit office upon ceasing to reside therein.

Nomination Period 

This is the period when individuals may officially be issued nomination papers, circulate them for signatures and file for candidacy. The nomination period dates will be available soon.

Candidates must contact the City Clerk to schedule an appointment to be issued the necessary forms and nomination papers to run for office, and a second appointment to file their completed nomination papers and other required documents.
